Best Command An Army Team Setups and Loadouts
A loadout in Command An Army is up to four units whose star costs fit under your star limit (the fourth slot opens at account level 15). These setups come from creator gameplay and the builds players post, with the star cost of each so you can see what fits.
The rule behind every good army
Radex Tips puts it simply: one unit to hold the front, one ranged unit, one fast unit for chasing and repositioning, and eventually one high-star unit. Three copies of the same job lose to a mixed army, however rare they are.
Five setups
| Setup | Units | Star cost | Why it works |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day one (5-star limit) | Crossbowman + Scout Rider | 3 + 2 = 5 | The limit MimoBlox had on launch day: range and a flanker in one loadout |
| Free-to-play four-slot | Shieldman + Spearman + Crossbowman + Scout Rider | 1 + 1 + 3 + 2 = 7 | Every role covered with units you get early; swap in a Spartan for the Crossbowman and you have the Spartan, Shieldman, horse rider and Spearman setup recommended on CHALLS’s guide page |
| Spartan wall (defense) | Spartan + Shieldman + Spearman + Crossbowman | 4 + 1 + 1 + 3 = 9 | The launch-week meta: in MimoBlox’s video it held a full round without losing a Spartan, and the spears stop the cavalry that could break it |
| Cavalry strike (attack) | Scout Rider + Berserker + Crossbowman + Shieldman | 2 + 4 + 3 + 1 = 10 | Scout Riders open the point, Berserkers clean it up inside, the shield line covers your archers |
| Anti-shield (Update 1) | Mace + Halberder + Javelineer + Scout Rider | 3 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 9 | All three new units deal block damage; the Scout Rider finishes what the shields no longer protect |
Update 1 unit star costs are from the event text (September 12, 2026). Your own limit decides which rows fit; check it on the units screen before you spend Gems on a unit you cannot field yet.
Builds players are running
- Spartan, Imperial Wall, Lancer, Immortal: posted by a player asking for a rating. It needs two evolved units (Imperial Wall and Lancer), so it is an end-game goal. Their star costs have not been shown yet.
- A four-star loadout: one 4-star, one 3-star and one 1-star is the setup YellowHeadVin runs at an 8-star budget.
- Two 4-stars at once: Rexon tried Immortal plus Berserker and found it looked great but played badly with nothing ranged behind them. Rarity is not a plan.
How to adapt between rounds
- You picked defense: swap your fast unit for a second shield or spear unit. You do not need to chase.
- The enemy has lots of archers: add a Shieldman in front, or flank with cavalry.
- The enemy is turtling with Spartans: bring a Mace or Halberder, or hit them from range.
- The enemy has cavalry: Spearman on Hold beats it every time.
Unit roles and stars are all on the units page, and the matchups are in the counter chart.
